TECH TIP - Perform Windows Updates
Performing computer updates is critical to maintaining computer performance and security. There are 3 main categories of computer updates:
- Security updates - These are provided by your operating system manufacturer (Microsoft or Apple). These are the most frequently needed updates and protect your computer from malicious threats.
- Feature updates - These are provided by your operating system manufacturer (Microsoft or Apple). These updates provide enhanced functionality and improved features over time.
- Hardware (driver) updates - These are provided by the computer manufacturer (Dell, Microsoft, Apple). These updates are meant to improve the functionality between the hardware components and software.
Computer updates should be completed on a regular basis to maintain computer security and performance.
How do I perform Windows Updates?
!! UPDATES SHOULD BE PERFORMED AT THE END OF A WORK DAY.
!! BE SURE TO COMPLETE ANY COMPUTER RESTARTS AT THE END OF THE WORK DAY

Click on the Windows Start button.

Type 'Updates' (no clicking into a field required).

From the results, select 'Check for updates'.

On the Windows Update screen, select 'Install all'.

Updates will install in the background. You can continue to work while updates are installed, but be sure to save files often.

When updates are complete, one or more computer restarts will be required. Be sure to complete these at your earliest convenience. Please allow up to 1 hour for the computer restarts to finish.
